DEVICE IN FRENCH

Few people know that our diagnostic tools, equipment, spare parts with the Sagem brand are products of a French defense company.

Anatoly SUKHOV

In the south-west of Paris, near the Andre Citroen park, there is a bizarre maze of glass towers. You won’t immediately guess that among such beauty a representation of a serious defense complex was located.

The entrance to the building is guarded by an automatic doorman: doors will be opened only to the bearer of the electronic card. It seems that secrecy is a fad here. What can you do: along with mobile phones, faxes and digital decoders (namely, they bring the company most of the profit - about two billion dollars last year!), They produce navigation and surveillance devices for military equipment, control systems for helicopters, and are engaged in automatic identification by fingerprints, optoelectronics, fiber optic technology, etc.

Components for the car - in third place in terms of sales, but here Sazhem does not change in details, but focuses on the core area: electronics (on-board monitoring and navigation systems, control units, sensors, electric car equipment, diagnostic equipment) and precision mechanics (nozzles, fuel pump). Let's get acquainted with the products of the peaceful French “defense industry”.

Perhaps its most obvious part is diagnostic tools. The portable Eurodiag, the latest development of the company, combines the functions of a tester for injection engines (reading and erasing fault codes, controlling actuators) and a standard multimeter (measuring current, voltage, resistance), and on a high-resolution flat screen you can simulate a familiar scale with arrow. In addition, the tester also works as an oscilloscope: it is on the shoulder to check the ignition system, generator. We need an accurate pressure gauge - this is not a problem either, Eurodiag can handle this (of course, special sets are required for most additional measurements). The developers also laid down the possibility of retraining in the device - the diagnostic program (the so-called firmware) can be updated from a CD or via the Internet (a new version is released every six months).

Gas analyzers of the Ultima 600 series are also “multi-pitters”. The coolest model not only determines the concentration of each of the five gases (carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxides, hydrocarbons and oxygen), but also diagnoses the state of the ignition system, lambda probe, catalyst, and also reads engine trouble codes, translating them into "normal" language. The kit for working with diesel engines includes a smoke meter. And the infrared control panel will allow the mechanic to switch diagnostic modes without leaving the car (or, possibly, without getting up from his favorite chair). Ultima, like Eurodiag, is trying to keep up to date - the software is regularly updated.

Along with universal equipment, the French also produce special diagnostic systems for their cars: “Clip” for “Renault” and “Proxia” for “Citroen”. The “clip” is based on a laptop (Pentium-266 processor), with a set for measuring physical quantities and an Optima gas analyzer. Everything is packed in neat plastic cases. "Proxy" is a completely original development. The brain of the complex is a portable diagnostic unit in a shockproof case with a monochrome or, on request, color display. To download software or exchange data, simply insert the unit into the console (no wires are needed), where there are devices for reading CDs, floppy disks and smart cards. By the way, Klip has been sold in Russia for many years - it is equipped with Renault branded stations. A contract was signed for the supply of Eurodiag testers and Ultima gas analyzers.

The dashboard is the face of the car. And "Soot" is trying not to hit the dirt in the face: its panels go to the conveyor of the world's leading automobile plants. Those days are passing when under the “dashboard” it was possible to stick your arm almost freely to unscrew the speedometer cable or replace the desired bulb by touch. In a modern car, there is almost no free space there, and designers are making increasingly stringent requirements for the dimensions of devices: they must become more compact, thinner. Yes, and we need other connectors for data buses (32-bit processors in a car are already quite common). Down with the bulbs - long live compact and reliable LEDs, let the stepper motors control the arrows, instead of the electromechanical relays - electronic, a single color display for the radio, air conditioning, telephone and navigation system! Today, all this is being released on Sazhem. Moreover, you can now just chat with the car. The built-in voice synthesizer tells about traffic jams on the route, about the weather, and tells you the right turn. Thanks to the speech recognition program, the computer understands the driver’s commands, and accessing the Internet via GSM / GPRS channels completely turns the car into a kind of Internet cafe. Only who will follow the road?

In addition to the “face”, the French are engaged in “giblets”: these are nozzles, including a new type - much more compact than those used so far; these are spark plugs designed for more than 120 thousand kilometers, moreover, they are very miniature with a diameter of the threaded part of 10 mm; these are injection system sensors, valves, electronic control units - you can’t list everything.

And of course, “Soot” could not get past the idea of reviving an electric car. In cooperation with the Peugeot-Citroen group, Sazhema engineers developed a control and monitoring unit for a passenger electric car (it also recuperates electricity during braking, monitors battery power and provides 12 V for standard electrical equipment). We did not forget about the “gas station”, and made them as versatile as possible: voltage - from 45 to 430 volts, power - 35 kW. Such a "socket" is suitable for cars, light trucks, and buses. By the way, the first routes of "electric buses" appeared in Paris this year.

Eurodiag for injection diagnostics is the latest development of Sazhem. On the liquid crystal display, you can simulate a regular scale, with an arrow.
