A more complete set with ABS, alloy wheels, sunroof and longitudinal arches on the roof will cost two thousand more. The automatic transmission modification is usually equipped with two more frontal airbags, which in total gives an increase of about $ 900. Prices for turbo-diesel cars (83 hp) start at $ 16 thousand (but they are better equipped), however, as for the Grand Sporting extended to 4435 mm last year - from $ 16.5 thousand for gasoline up to $ 18.6 thousand for diesel. In addition, if the mosque is tug, you can afford a “kenguryatnik” ($ 260–620), crankcase protection ($ 210–350), steps ($ 350–560), a case-cover for a spare wheel ($ 290).

THE ROAD ENDS

For Sporting, this is not a problem - he is ready for off-road adventures better than other “beach people”: a solid frame structure, a classic continuous beam at the rear, double wishbones in front. Moreover, massive lower levers can be destroyed without the slightest damage to them, not only ice hummocks, but, it seems, concrete gouges. Preparing for serious tests, it is better to replace the plastic mudguards that cover the bottom of most of the car with steel ones. What is good - the protection forms a completely flat plane without any protruding elements. A metal gas tank is also covered with a steel sheet. But the chrome body kit, which gives the appearance of the car a resemblance to a Christmas tree, only worsens the geometric cross-country ability.

Switching from rear-wheel drive to full and vice versa is possible without stopping at speeds up to 60 km / h (front hubs are automatic). The front axle is connected rigidly without a differential, therefore it is permissible to use it only on a coating with limited coupling properties, and one should remember about a significant deterioration in the vehicle's handling. In heavy soil, say, in loose sand or mud, lower gears in the transfer case, doubling the torque (gear ratio 1.98), are indispensable. In general, the Sportage is a very serious all-terrain vehicle, which can only be blamed for the lack of cross-axle locks.

"SPORTIDGE" IN THE CITY

Urban exploitation revealed more advantages than disadvantages for Sporting. Like other all-terrain vehicles, it is equipped with very massive wheels and a powerful suspension, which allows you not to be too careful on all sorts of potholes and tram tracks. High landing provides excellent visibility over the roofs of passenger cars and the ability to better predict the situation ahead. Small size and a short sloping hood distinguish it from most bulky brothers in the class - you can confidently maneuver in a dense stream. Plus, it has good dynamics at a modest fuel consumption for a gasoline “jeep” (see table). The disadvantages include a mean internal mirror, the field of view of which is half covered by a pair of rear head restraints and a spare wheel between them, and even the inability to constantly use four-wheel drive, for example, on ice or in snow porridge. By the way, about winter - body parts are protected by a zinc-metal coating.

SPORTIDGE ON THE HIGHWAY

A stiffer suspension makes the body of an empty car accurately repeat the profile of the road. Because of this, a highly seated driver experiences not only tangible vertical overloads on bumps, but also longitudinal and transverse ones. However, we will be correct - many short-base three-door “kids” are much stronger. In addition, as a rule, they don’t drive empty into the distance, and with an increase in load, the ride smoothness noticeably improves. The hundred-hundred-strong engine with an even characteristic pulls well from the bottom, without forcing once again to switch when overtaking, and makes it easy to maintain high cruising speed. One thing only: at 90 km / h aerodynamic noise appears in the area of the front pillars.

SPORTIDGE BROKEN

Owners of KIA in Russia can feel almost Europeans - the same three years of a general guarantee with a mileage of no more than 60 thousand km for this period (against 100 thousand km, say, in Germany). Prices for spare parts are moderate and roughly correspond to inexpensive foreign cars. There are service centers in many large cities, but outside of them there may be difficulties with spare parts. At the same time, "Sporting" is quite common in the market for used cars, and accordingly there are offers of "used" spare parts.

SPORTIDGE FOR PEOPLE …

In terms of length and width of the Sportage cabin, it slightly exceeds the subcompacts of the Nine-Tens class with a significantly higher height - about 120 mm still remains in front of the head! - so four people are accommodated here quite comfortably. The three of us are cramped behind - the extreme will have to turn our shoulders, although you can keep your head straight, and the developed wheel arches make landing difficult. The driver's seat is quite comfortable, that's just the steering wheel, unexpectedly large and thin in cross section, unusual. The most striking drawback of the interior is a noticeable simplification: hard, slippery and not always well-fitted plastic in the finish, seat belts that are not adjustable in height, “tin” sound when doors are slammed. What can you do, this is the flip side of such an attractive all-terrain price …

Before you get into the luggage compartment of the Sportage, pay attention to the spare wheel located at the stern. It is protected by a "secret", but everyone can swing the bracket of its fastening to the left. There seems to be nothing wrong with that - well, he threw it back all right - but it looks too defenseless, if we take into account the skill of the attackers. In the "native" Korean car, the lock on the bracket works the same as on the hood: first it is opened with a lever from the passenger compartment, and then it is removed from the safety hook from the outside.

The trunk of the Sportage seems small, but thanks to its almost regular rectangular shape and modest wheel arches, it has shown quite decent 320 liters when loading to the window line. However, it is possible to load even higher, to the rear head restraints - the review will still not get worse, and there is no shelf covering the top of the trunk. The rear backrest is split (50/50), and the seat itself is folding, which allows you to increase the length of the luggage compartment from 770 to 1240 mm. More suitable for bulky cargo “Grand Sporting” - all 190 mm of increase in length falls precisely on the trunk, the minimum volume of which reaches 483 liters.

SPORTIDGE COMPETITORS

"Thoroughbred" domestic all-wheel drive - "Niva" and UAZ of different models and modifications - cheaper by half or four. Such a large gap in price and no less in consumer qualities does not allow them to be considered serious rivals. Such may be the new VAZ 2123, but it is not yet available for sale, and what is the quality of workmanship is an open question. Of the all-terrain imported all-terrain vehicles, the Sportiju are very close in price ($ 15, 000) to the miniature and low-powered Suzuki Jimny and Daihatsu Therios, but the former lacks a five-door modification and the latter has a low gear in the “razdatka” (ZR, 2000, No. 1). For some, the Chevrolet Blazer rear-wheel drive can be an alternative for about the same money, but, strictly speaking, it does not apply to off-road vehicles and has still remained an unproven thing in itself.
