VOLKSWAGEN-LUPO
Volkswagen LUPO
Until now, the most compact model of the Volkswagen concern has remained the Spanish SEAT-Arosa which debuted a little over a year ago. However, the success of European buyers FIAT-Sicento and Ford-Ka prompted the Germans to strike back - a small car appeared already under the Volkswagen brand.
Although Lupo was created on a single platform with Arosa (which, in turn, “inherited a lot” from Volkswagen Polo and SEAT-Ibiza), cars cannot be called twins. Of course, the design of the tailgate has a lot in common, and the “profile” of the cars is similar, but the “Lupo” looks much more interesting in the “face” due to the main stylistic feature - round headlights and an elegant hood shape. At the same time, unlike the Arosa, whose interior almost copies the Polo, a completely new front panel has been developed for Lupo. The highlight here is the two visors edging the speedometer and tachometer. Finishing from bright fabric to match the body seems to many too catchy; however, for a surcharge, you can buy a car with a plain leather interior.
“Lupo” was equipped with the already familiar four-cylinder gasoline power units: a 50-horsepower liter and 75-horsepower working volume of 1.4 liters, first tested on the 4th generation Volkswagen Golf. So far, only one diesel is offered - 1.7 liter also from Arosa, but next year they promise a three-cylinder engine with direct injection: they say that it consumes less than 3 liters of diesel per 100 km (see material “And 2000 atmospheres is not the limit”In the same issue). The plans for the future and the version of the car with a 125-horsepower 16-valve 1.6-liter engine with variable valve timing, borrowed from the Polo GTI. With such a motor, Lupo will develop up to 200 km / h, so that the car will be equipped with a stiffer suspension, and sports seats will appear in the interior.
