The review of commercial trucks presented in the January issue dealt mainly with their rental. Developing this topic, an employee of the magazine Anton Utkin begins a more detailed story about specific models of trucks. Today is about the smallest of them, Izh 2715.
When choosing a “heel”, a novice entrepreneur motivates this with his compactness, maneuverability and low price. It is important to take into account that, although traffic regulations largely equate category “B” trucks with cars, even the lightest of them, Izh 2715, certainly does not apply to those, which many of its owners will only learn about in unpleasant disputes with the traffic police. For example, if entry to some road is prohibited by the corresponding sign with the sign “Except for passenger cars” (namely with words, not a symbol), this does not mean that you can drive to Izh 2715. On the roads, "heels" are often stopped for inspection of the van, license verification, waybills, etc., and when transporting the same 300 kg of cargo to the VAZ 2104, you have no problems with the traffic police. Passenger and cargo modification - Izh 2715 6 is also considered a full truck. However, this short-run model is unpopular among traders - such a machine is much more expensive, and the ability to carry passengers in it is extremely rare. But the huge windows of the van cause unnecessary concern for the safety of the goods.
Here it is in front of us, the brand new Izh 2715-01. I open the door, sit behind the wheel and … fall into the soft seat. The thick-thick layer of porous latex in its pillow does not allow you to find a stable position, which prevents you from working while driving. If the left seat can still be moved backwards, providing a comfortable fit for the driver up to 180 cm tall, then the tall passenger has to rest his knees on the instrument panel - there is a spare tire behind his seatback.
We turn around: the upholstery of the rear wall of the cab is an ordinary building hardboard … The maximum cost reduction for the “heel” compared to the “combi” and the sedan was made explicitly in anticipation of its operation in automobile enterprises. The ignition switch is installed in the middle of the instrument panel. After the "refinement" of his larva (using a screwdriver), it becomes "universal" - any driver of the column will be able to leave the line, starting the engine with his key. And you can lock the steering wheel only by using an additional lock, the so-called poker.
Open the hood. The Izhevsk version of the Ufa motor is even more attractive than the Moscow one. Quick-detachable “top” thermostat is very convenient for replacement: no need to drain “Antifreeze”. Radiator hoses are short, without intricate bends. There is no place for air traffic jams. At the bottom, on a special branch pipe, there is a drain cock - we have already lost the habit of this convenience. But the expansion tank, made of an opaque plastic can, in the neck of which the radiator outlet hose is lowered, looks more like a homemade product.
The fact that the "Ozone" carburetors are mainly placed on passenger IZhs, and the owners of the "heels" are forced to be content with the K-151, we knew before, therefore, they were already mentally prepared for the appearance of its molded khaki-colored body. Well, let's try (for the umpteenth time!) To make friends with this whim, because changing it right away to Ozone is irrational. "Heel" should pay for itself as soon as possible, and do not want to invest extra money in it.
Now look into the back. Its floor is flat, except for the protruding wheel arches. Having turned off screws, we open two large hatches. So it is: between the upper floor and the bottom there is a huge empty space, a kind of cache, where many things will fit. For example, spare parts and tools for road repair of any complexity. Those who think that the van is completely isolated from the cab will be disappointed - the lower side sinuses of a large section connect these two volumes, therefore, for example, leakage of gasoline from under the fuel level sensor in the tank causes a sharp smell in the cabin.
Inspection of the car from below, in the pit, left a good impression. All the revealed differences from the old AZLK models (for example, 2140) are certainly in favor of the IL. The front side members of the body, without interruption, pass into the rear, therefore, characteristic for 2140 floor cracks near the front spring brackets are unlikely. The transverse support of the gearbox on the IZhs is fixed with M10 nuts. (On AZLK models, M8 bolts stood here, which merged with corrosion with welded nuts and turned them in brackets.)
It was the turn to try the car on the go. Remembering the technique of starting the Ufa engine, we pump gasoline manually, press the gas pedal a couple of times, stretch the “suction” by half a passage. A sharp rattle of the starter - the motor “grabs” and after two seconds already exactly rumbles with all four cylinders. Sound insulation in the “heel” is zero, but by our standards, the noise level in the cabin is within the acceptable range: in the sound spectrum, mainly the exhaust sound, easy howling of the circuit, hissing air at the inlet and the propeller hum of the fan impeller. But there are no clatter of rockers, as in the Zhiguli, and vibrational noise of interior parts, as in Samara.
Warming up the engine a bit, we start. An empty car accelerates quite briskly, you feel confident in the stream. When shifting gears, you feel resistance in the mechanism (as experience shows, its stiff plastic bushings are developed only in thousands after ten runs). And the new mechanism has clarity and selectivity similar to that of Samara. The force on the steering wheel is noticeably less than in the Zhiguli, so a smaller diameter steering wheel is requested.
The brake pedal is significantly lighter than on conventional VAZ cars, with the exception of the Oka, of course - the force is about the same as on the Moskvich-2141, with the same deceleration rate.
As long as the heel under the wheels is smooth asphalt - everything is fine, you even begin to enjoy driving. But the very first crossing of the tram rails immediately spoils the mood: as if the front suspension does not exist at all, and instead of springs, rigid struts. Oh yes, because the Izh 2715 suspension contains reinforced springs, the stiffness of which is clearly not consistent with the mass of an empty car and with ordinary "passenger" shock absorbers. When driving, the suspension arms are always depressed almost to the stop of the bumpers in the beam, and on small irregularities the car shakes, as if on a vibration stand. And when the wheel hits a pothole or, say, an ordinary brick or a protruding sewer hatch quickly moves, this is an emergency. A fairly large wheel travel this time is used almost completely. A powerful spring is compressed and, giving up the stored energy, throws the front of the car up, easily overcoming the resistance of shock absorbers designed for soft "passenger" springs. The suspension levers “shoot” down, and to the strong rumble of the rebound is added a rumble of everything that is at least slightly mobile: cladding, rods, door fittings, tools, etc. The hood, devoid of diagonal amplifiers, works like a membrane, and its booming plump makes passersby turn around. If you look closely at the traffic flow, you notice that it is the drivers of the “heels” who are most diligently driving around the pits and hatches.
The bad work of the suspension is aggravated by archaic "ultra-high-profile" M-100 tires, which are one and a half times heavier than modern radial tires of the same dimension. An increase in the unsprung mass of 4 kg negatively affects not only comfort, but also the ability of the machine to hold the road, that is, safety.
To experience the speed of the car, we set off for the city. Along the way, we were able to appreciate the dynamics, starting to race with one fresh-looking “seven”. As expected, the “Zhiguli” engine, with a slightly smaller volume, turned out to be much more assertive at low speeds, and when I turned on the third gear after a jerk in second gear, the opponent quickly got me and even walked around to the body. Carried away by the race, for some reason he spent three seconds in vain, twisting the engine without noticeable acceleration. Then he finally turned on the fourth, but could not increase the gap, since a gentle rise began. And I still ride on the third, adding gas as the speed rises. And here he is, the long-awaited “BMW pickup”! Having felt the increase in thrust, gently squeeze the gas to the stop, opening the secondary chamber, and with spectacular acceleration I go forward … Already at the top, at the pass, reaching 110 km / h, I turn on the fourth and look in the mirror. "Seven" was forty meters behind …
The behavior of the car on the track was also easily predictable. Here, the “heel” with its aerodynamics is no longer an rival to passenger cars. "Maximum speed" in fourth gear is slightly higher than in third, and depends heavily on the direction of the wind. In the opposite direction, it is often simply pointless to open the secondary camera - only the sound of the motor changes, and the thrust does not increase. In addition, at speeds above 110 km / h, the car is somehow unstable on the road. Heavy wheels and a large windage of the van make themselves felt.
In conclusion, a few words about the operation of Izh 2715. Its maintenance and repair do not cause any difficulties, since they almost do not differ from the Muscovites. The purely “heel” problem is the van doors. In wet weather, they quickly become overgrown with dirt and therefore rust. Once a year they have to be repainted. The larva of the van door lock fails already in the first winter, so it is better to screw the ears under the padlock in advance. An urgent need to put a lid with a lock on the neck of the gas tank, and put on an anti-dust cap over it.
