In the Greek alphabet, whose letters "Lancia" has long been marking its models, "Y" is read as "ipsilon". But we are accustomed to call this letter in the French manner "igrek" ("and Greek"). “Lancia Y 10” of the first generation (1985–1995) had no direct competitors in Europe: appearance, dynamic qualities, level of comfort and decoration did not allow to put “unpretentious” FIAT-Panda models and
SEAT Marbella. There were simply no others of this size (length 3.43 m). Rebuilding the lineup, the FIAT concern, which includes Lancia, sent the new Igrek to the very heat of competition: growing to 3.73 m, he found himself among such "hits" as Renault Twingo and Clio, Opel Corsa, Ford Fiesta, Peugeot 106, Nissan Micra, Volkswagen Polo. The stake is made on comfort, exclusivity and the lira rate, favorable for export. Base increased from 2160 to 2380 mm, length - from 3430 to 3730, width - from 1510 to 1690 mm. As for the cabin, such important dimensions as height from the seat cushion to the ceiling (960 mm in the front, 930 in the back) and width (1450–1460 mm) are the best indicators in the class; not without reason "Igrek" appeared later than the main competitors. The shape of the three-door body is outlined by long curve curves, it has a special expressiveness, although not everyone is enthusiastically accepted. In any case, nothing reminds of an angular box - the first "Player".
"Mechanics" is unified with more mass models: from "FIAT-Punto"
used a platform - the base of the body with suspensions - and a motor (1.2 l, 41 kW / 60 l. from.); another motor (1.4 liter, 59 kW / 80 hp) - from Bravo / Brava. The new "Igreka" has no all-wheel drive modification, and with a 1.2-liter engine, you can order a continuously variable transmission (variator) ECVT or
six-speed manual gearbox. Standard equipment includes steering wheel with adjustable column and power steering, airbag for
driver, central locking and pivoting rear windows. For an extra charge, a pillow is installed for the passenger, ABS, air conditioning, radio control on the steering wheel, etc.
